Utah is looking to lower the legal alcohol limit to .05 – a first in the nation. Currently, all 50 states have a .08 cap.
This is a single drink for many people. I wonder if our legislature in Kansas will follow suit and if we will ever pass a zero tolerance driving under the influence statute whereby you cannot even have any alcohol and drive. Although auto deaths related to drunk driving increased in Utah from 2013-2014 legislators believe there are other factors, such as speed and seat belt usage that led to a higher percentage of deaths, that should be addressed. Time will tell, but it will be interesting to watch events unfold in Utah.
